MANDATE
The Community Organization’s mandate is to offer activities through where people can participate actively and will develop their skills.  These activities are a positive impact on self-esteem and Aboriginal cultural pride through the five following themes : culture, education, community health, recreational and society.

OBJECTIVES
• Inform and teach people on the different realities of the Aboriginal culture.
• Offer educational awareness and prevention activities that will permit the enhancement of  pride for their culture.
• Defend and support the rights of the Aboriginal community.
• Respond to the feeling of belonging to the urban Aboriginal community by offering various activities that contribute to a better mental and physical health.

ACTIVITIES
• Conferences and workshops on different subjects.
• Children’s Christmas.
• V.I.P. Christmas.
• Annual Curling Funspiel.
• St-Valentine supper, Easter brunch, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween activities, etc…
• Physical activities (dance classes, walking groups or other, as per the wishes of the participants).
• Cultural presence in all activities.

TARGETED CLIENTELE
The Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community.

FUNDING
Funding by the Department of Human Resources  Development Canada in accordance with the Homeless Program.

BACKGROUND
Since its beginning, the Val-d’Or Native Friendship Centre organizes cultural, social, recreational and educational activities for people of the urban community.  For many years these regular activities have gathered young and old.

SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES
Our approach is a community one , not individual.  Persons wishing to be accompanied in their personal initiatives are referred to the Social Development Sector.
